Legal
Terms and Conditions
Last updated September 2026.
These terms govern use of BuildThread, a service that helps general contractors, subcontractors, and homeowners track decisions, questions, tasks, and change requests on a residential construction project. By using BuildThread, you agree to these terms.
The service
BuildThread ingests messages sent by SMS, MMS, email, and its own web and mobile apps for a project, and uses automated tools, including third-party AI providers, to extract structured items from that traffic. Extracted items are proposed, not final: a human confirms an item before it is treated as an agreed fact. BuildThread does not draft, review, or provide legal advice on construction contracts or change orders.
SMS and MMS communications
- A general contractor using BuildThread is responsible for obtaining consent from subcontractors and homeowners before adding them to project text communications, and for the accuracy of that consent record.
- Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies with project activity.
- Reply STOP to any message to opt out, START to resume, and HELP for help. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
Accounts and acceptable use
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account or adding a project contact.
- You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
- You will not use BuildThread to send unlawful, harassing, or unauthorized communications, or to collect consent you have not actually obtained.
Content and ownership
You retain ownership of the messages, documents, and project content you submit. You grant BuildThread a license to process that content solely to provide and improve the service, including sending it to third-party AI providers for extraction and semantic search as described in our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimers
BuildThread is provided "as is." Extracted items reflect automated processing of message content and may contain errors; they are not a substitute for a party's own review of project communications, and are not a legal record of a contract, change order, or agreement until confirmed and executed by the parties through their own required process. BuildThread is not a party to, and assumes no liability for, agreements between a general contractor, subcontractor, or homeowner.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BuildThread is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service, including damages arising from an inaccurate or delayed extraction, message, or notification.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.
